gallavanting

well..orang lidi i tengah pegi jalan2 agaknyer lah...maybe ikut sri nyer anak2 ayam and her cookies..hahha. now i wish i had saved the image on my hd but oh well...just wait and see if it will come back . kalau tak..dah nak kena tukar lagi lah the template..halamak..leceh betul lah..

some guy ice fishing on the lake

saturday was a beautiful day

anyway, sarina had her IQ tested. so now i am not sure what to do. due to the no child left behind nyer policy, teachers will not test students for the gifted class unless parents request for it. i ni mmg lah malas betul nak gi bebual ngan teacher2..maklumlah, when i was teaching, i can understand the pressures that teachers have to go through. so i am torn. nak terus cakap kat principal or to the teacher. my friends kat sini kata..go see P straight..but entah lah..i am still mulling this over. sean said to go ahead..but we'll see. for her, i think she is happy wherever she is at :)

father and daughters checking out the icy waters

then they decided to throw rocks onto the ice..what a mess they made..you can also see the air bubble underneath the ice :)

anyway, last night time dia tengah berus gigi dengan sarah while making a huge mess in the sink, she told me that one of the smarter boys in her class told her that muslims are the world's abomination. now, i know that she does not know what the word mean. her vocabulary is good but not that good! hehehe...i was stumped...took me a sec to compose myself and tell her the meaning of that particular statement. after explaining to her what it meant, i told her to tell the boy to keep his opinions to himself.

sayang kakak kat adik dia :) i love taking pictures of them when they are not fighting with one another...hahahaha

then while i was sitting in the living room with sean, i called her again and grilled her on whether this boy really said it. she said yes..and i finally told her to tell the boy, should he say those things again..that, in the eyes of others, christians are viewed the same way too. but i told her..best not to engage in such discussions. sean asked me what's going on and i told him. he said that if any more nonsense like this happens again..the girls will probably be home schooled. now i am all for it, but i do think that it is a good thing too that sarina is exposed to these sort of situations. because, in life, there will always be someone , somewhere, spouting stuff like this. it is a good practice for her to defend her beliefs. too bad that she has to do it at a very young age.

they found a couple of fossils..sarina was very excited..apa lagi..collect batu lagilah...don't even ask about her rock collection

i love this lake...sebab, we have the place all to ourselves :)

anyway, on a lighter note..we went for a drive on both sat and sun. saturday was very beautiful...like today, well this morning so far. the sun was out and the sky was so blue. sunday was a bit bleak and we had a dense fog advisory warning last night too. we checked out another part of wilson lake and went to lucas, kansas to finally visit the garden of eden. so many times we went there and it was always closed. finally we got to go inside and also view a dead guy in his concrete coffin. will do an entry on this another time.

sean got this hydroponic garden for me..see all my herbs growing in winter..hehehe

epok2 sadin..my peberet...sadin cap ayam dah habis lah..dah nak kena beli lagi ni..

for the first time here, i saw a few guys ice fishing on the frozen lake. the girls and sean were having fun throwing rocks into the lake, but the rocks kept bouncing off the ice. they started with small rocks and pebbles but by the time they got into full swing..they were throwing huge rocks to try and break the ice..hehe. what a mess they caused..we explored the length of the beach and saw a lone cougar tracks. i thought it could be that of a coyote..but the shape of the prints did not look like a dog's.

made this ooey gooey, chewy caramel brownies..dah habis dah..

first time making chicken claypot rice...wahh..so sedap.. if i do say so myself..hehe...can make it again :)

sean is already talking about buying a gun for our hikes. he said that one morning while driving to work, he saw an animal loping across the road. at first he thought it was a coyote but the tail looked different and finally he figured that it was a mountain lion. kansas does not acknowledge that there are cougars in this parts of the states..just because they have not seen any carcases..but that does not mean that there isn't any..according to the wildlife and nature reserve nyer sitelah.. so another thing to think about in the next couple of months..hehe. anyway, for more pics just go here.

rigatoni and chicken alfredo :)

fresh springrolls with dip :)

abt that boy's comment, remind me of our short stint there.. i told u b4 wat my son went thru, more like a racist comment dat he got. But the one that sarina heard is worst!! kecik2 dah pandai comment something dat terrible.. OMG!
haiz..if parents or the media do not stop potraying that kind of propaganda abt islam, terrorism etc.. these kids will always hv the wrong info!

pilih lah mana yg u rasa ok Rosma, kalau la i pat sana, i pun nak suruh u jadi my kids nya homeschool teacher!
but again, experience is our best teacher, kan?

I hope sarina can manage things well with regards what you told here. That was uncalled for..really.Kalau dia gitu macam lagi mebe sarina could let the teacher know...and mebe from there, the teacher can inform his parents apa dia dah cakap pada sarina n put a stop to it.Or lenkali, jawab kat budak tu..'May Allah forgives you'..:)dah tu chao..
Beautiful lake rosma..bestnyerrrr....

I blame the media for propogating the misconception about Islam amongst the non-Islamic citizens of the world. Here in S'pore, walaupun tak ketara, tapi there are underlying emotions that can trigger off conflicts and tension amongst the different races, especially regarding religious issues. It actually happens in isolation and not widely reported jadi no public backlash. We just pray that the situation does not get out of hand sudahlah for our and our children's sake.

nora...mmg..she has been getting this sort of remark for a while now. biasa she can just deflect it but because sje tak tau the meaning of the word..tu yang she asked me tu. the media here..is awful and they say that they are fair and balanced..nak nak fox..menyampah sehhh..and pat robertson the televangelical...alamak..macam nak lempar dengan selipar jer lah diekni..hahhaha..tu lah still mulling2..we have till this august to decide :) as for the spring rolls...very easy to make kalau you ada the rice paper :)

kak za..yup..sebab i ni dah biasa ada plants around me..so when pindah and the yard cuma ada roses and lillies..i pun macam lemah semacam..so sean decided that we should get this. the herbs yang ada..like you said, rosemary , this one i beli separate..dill, two different kinds of basils , thyme, mint and chives sama italian parsley. yang DC nyer trip kan...sean cakap dia takder cuti lah..but bila you plan kan..let me know the date..best kalau weekend and see if i can manipulate our schedule and budget..hahaahahaha..so i am not giving up just yet :)

sriberry..ah ah lah..claypot kat kedai vietnam...but takder claypot pun boleh masak ini nasi lah...hehe. yes..kicap oyster sauce, ginger sesame oils and lupa pulak yang lain2 lah..or maybe that's it..hehe. regarding sarina..biasalah sri..i sort of expected this thing to happen cuma tak sangka this early jer..i was hoping that it will be when she is in middle school ke apa kan..but apa nak buat. sure we can tell the teacher, but as it is, majority are christians..there is only so much that they can do..we on our part has to do something also. so i am playing it by ear lah to see how this thing goes.

yara...you are so right there. the media here is not helping at all. politics have divided families and all that over here. it is up to us individuals here to make the public see that we are not as what they seem to want to potray on tv. sure the politics in the Middle east is not helping at all..but there is hope yet. more and more ppl are aware of the propaganda..cuma tulah..we can only hope that most americans would be subjective when they listen to news on TV.

salams faisal :) tasik ni mmg seronok...best kalau nak pergi exploring :) ah ah fresh springrolls ni mmg tak masak..seme sayur dia fresh fresh :) tulah..kalau dapat cari rice paper dari vietnam nyer kan..insyallah you can make this. kalau tak pun..if tempat faisal ada halal nyer vietnamese nyer restaurant..gaurantee ada ini popiah..hehe

so so envious of your herb garden,my hearb semua mati.one by one eventually.i think its all my fault lah...kadag kadang terlupa nak water lah...anyways,i think the gun is a good idea especially if you have seen such a beast around...dulu kat arizona my fil will bring it whenever he goes hiking intucson, theres sightings of cougars in the sabino canyon housing area too where they are at now and when i was there i actually read in the paper that this one guy was attacked and dragged by one hungry cougar..seram kan!

I'm having my lunch while reading this/looking at your food pix, so nasib baik jugak, if not menggigil kelaparan I tengok your pix *hehee*

The fossil looks so pretty!! If I was there, I'd take it home too. Maybe Sarina can sell her collection in the future. Siapa tahu, ada value and in demand!! :)

As for that boy's comment... apa nak buat eh... mana2 we get this kind of treatment even in a country that claims multi-religious tolerance and freedom of worship. It's all on that boy's parents lah. Apa yang dia belajar all comes from his home... I don't think a boy that young can instill anti-Islamic sentiments like that. Expressive pulaknye tu. It'll be funny to see the irony in a few years. Whatever goes around comes around kan, so we'll just wait and see lah :)
